I think of myself (Bronze, 2005) by Marianne Lindberg de Geer is a sculpture in Växjö, Sweden. (It is sometimes listed as Bronskvinnorna or Bronze Women).

The artist states that the work is a response to Western culture’s increasing fixation on apperances and that it reminds us to be proud of ourselves, and that all people have equal value.

The women stand with their feet on the ground, like us, for our sake, so that the world will become a better place. Despite this, the sculpture has been vandalized a few times but the women always regain their positions. The bodies are different, but each sculpture bears the artist’s own face. As if she looks at herself in a mirror, as if she ponders the choices women face every day.

With the current thinspo/fatspo sniping I thought it was something worth thinking about.
